A gentle way of treating varicose veins

Varicose veins are traditionally treated with a so-called “stripping operation” (“varicose vein stripping”) which was developed more than one hundred years ago by William Babcock. In the past 15 years innovative treatment methods have been developed that do not involve incisions or scarring. They are based on the minimally invasive closure of the diseased vein using ultrasound guidance.

New, minimally-invasive treatment methods – without incisions and scars

Varicose veins take on many different forms. They range from fine, red vessels (so-called spider-veins) to blue reticular veins that can measure up to 1 mm. Sometimes they are prominent, clearly visible meandering veins that cover the entire leg.

Most varicose veins are caused by the inability of the venous valves to close. This is rooted in an, often, hereditary weakness of the connective tissue. Thromboses, which are blood clots in the veins, can also lead to the formation of varicose veins. Varicose veins are not only an aesthetic problem for patients, they also lead to a deterioration of venous blood flow which can develop into swelling (oedema) and persistent changes to the skin like eczema and ulcers.

Endoluminal operations

In our practice we offer a range of gentle treatment methods, so-called endoluminal operations.
